Australia captain Pat Cummins has voiced his support for star opener Usman Khawaja, saying that his efforts to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are not offensive. Khawaja has been denied permission by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to have a sticker on his bat and shoes that depicts a black dove holding an olive branch and includes the words 01:UDHR, a reference to Article One of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The ICC cited its rules on messages related to politics, religion, or race as the reason for the denial. Despite the setback, Cummins commended Khawaja for standing up for his beliefs in a respectful manner. Khawaja has also recently spoken about the impact of the Israel-Hamas conflict on him, emphasizing that his goal is to shine a light on a topic he is passionately and strongly committed to.
