Lahore: Police have taken into custody 5 suspicious individuals outside the Punjab Assembly, who were attempting to enter the assembly where the voting process for the election of the Speaker was ongoing.

Lahore police stated that the suspects attempted to enter the Punjab Assembly and presented themselves as officers of a sensitive agency.

The police informed that all five individuals have been transferred to the Soul Line police station and legal action will be taken against them.

It should be noted that the newly elected members of the Punjab Assembly took the oath yesterday and today the election for the Speaker was held, resulting in Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) being elected as the new Speaker.

The senior vice president of PML(N) Maryam Nawaz has been nominated by the party for the position of Chief Minister and she has the majority in the assembly, while the supported independent candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have opted to join the Sunni Council, whose candidate is Mian Aslam Iqbal.
