The trial against former premier Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi resumed at the Adiala Jail on Monday. The case involves a diplomatic document that the Federal Investigation Agency alleges was never returned by Imran. The PTI claims the document contained a threat from the US to oust Imran as prime minister. Both Imran and Qureshi have pleaded not guilty and the trial is taking place at Adiala Jail. The trial proceedings were initially termed “erroneous” by an Islamabad High Court division bench, resulting in the scrapping of the entire proceedings and the start of a fresh trial. During the hearing, Qureshi requested the special court to summon President Dr Arif Alvi to testify before the court. President Alvi had denied approving changes to the Secrets Act under which the cipher trial is being held. Today, Judge Zulqarnain resumed hearing the case with the attendance of family members, lawyers, special prosecutor Zulfikar Abbas Naqvi, Rizwan Abbasi, and six members of the media.
