282 power pilferers caught by LESCO during crackdown

According to a LESCO spokesman, the company has submitted applications for FIRs against 268 electricity thieves, with 176 cases registered and 24 accused arrested. The anti-power theft operations are being conducted under the directives of the Federal Power Division, supervised by LESCO CEO Engineer Shahid Haider.

The LESCO chief has promised that the operations will continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft, including bringing both electricity pilferers and LESCO facilitators to justice. On the 68th day of the campaign, large agricultural and commercial consumers were found to be involved in electricity theft and were disconnected and charged.

Overall, 20 commercial, 02 agricultural, and 260 domestic connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 307,574 units amounting to Rs 13.186 million. The LESCO has charged detection bills against various units to multiple electricity thieves during the campaign.

During the campaign, LESCO detected pilferage on 26,125 power connections, submitted 25,847 FIR applications, with 24,998 FIRs registered and 12,568 accused arrested. A total of 48,108,264 detection units worth Rs 1,990,830,066 have been charged to power pilferers.
