Chaudhry Musaddiq Ali, the 28-year-old candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) in the by-election for PP-32 Gujrat, defeated the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi by a huge margin. According to unofficial and non-governmental results received from PP-32 by Express News, Chaudhry Musaddiq Ali secured 63,536 votes, defeating his uncle with a margin of 45,209 votes.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi received 18,327 votes according to unofficial and non-governmental results. PML(Q) workers in Gujrat took to the streets chanting slogans and celebrated the victory with great enthusiasm.

Chaudhry Musaddiq Ali, who is the nephew of former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and the son of former Federal Minister Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, handed a significant defeat to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. His elder brother, Chaudhry Hussain Elahi, is also a member of the National Assembly.

Previously, Chaudhry Musaddiq Ali had secured the third position in the general elections held on February 8, receiving 26,797 votes from NA-62. Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had unsuccessfully contested elections from this constituency 9 times.

In the general elections held on February 8, Salik Hussain had defeated Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in PP-32.

It is worth mentioning that Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is currently in jail in a corruption case, and in his absence, his wife Kalsoom Elahi and Chaudhry Shujat Hussain’s daughter-in-law Sumaira Elahi ran the election campaign.
