Rawalpindi: The opening ceremony of the first hangor-class submarine, prepared in China for Pakistan, was held where the Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, along with other officials were present.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army, the opening ceremony of the submarine took place at the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Limited in Shuangliu Base, China, and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf was a special guest at the event.

ISPR stated that this project will add a new dimension to Pakistan-China friendship, as the Pakistan government signed a contract for the acquisition of 8 hangor-class submarines during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan.

The statement further mentioned that under the contract, 4 submarines would be manufactured in China and the other 4 would be manufactured in Pakistan at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited.

According to ISPR, these submarines will be equipped with the latest weapons and sensors, allowing them to target objectives from long distances.
