The Ukrainian military reported successfully hitting two large Russian landing ships and other infrastructure in the occupied Crimean peninsula. The attack included a communications center and several facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. It was described as the most massive attack in recent times by a Russian-appointed governor in the region, with casualties and damage to transportation infrastructure. Satellite images show the Russian fleet moving further east to Novorossiysk in response to the attacks. While the attack may not have a strategic impact on the war, it has allowed Ukraine to export more grain, important for the war economy. Russia has increased its air attacks against Ukraine in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on its border regions, including a significant aerial barrage on Ukraine’s energy sector. Russia also targeted Kyiv and the western region of Lviv with a “massive” air attack. Russian forces are seeking to press their advantage in manpower and ammunition as Kyiv faces delays in Western aid supplies. Poland reported that one of the Russian missiles fired at western Ukraine breached its airspace. Poland, a staunch ally of Ukraine, said it would demand an explanation from Moscow for the airspace violation.
