The president of Istanbulspor ordered his players to leave the field in protest during a match against Trabzonspor after the referee did not call a penalty. This incident occurred just over a week after a referee was punched in the face during a game. The match was suspended as a result, and the Turkish Football Federation will make a decision about the game. The incident adds to a history of violence against referees in Turkish football, despite efforts to clamp down on such behavior. FIFA’s referees committee chairman, Pierluigi Collina, described the recent attack on a referee as horrific, and TFF chief Mehmet Buyukeksi blamed a culture of contempt towards referees for such incidents.
