I, Somiya Arshad, the wife of Martyred Arshad Sharif, have found out through various media sources that an Islamabad court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against me in the case related to the investigation and inspection of my late husband’s murder in Kenya. Please note that I have not received any notice or summons from the relevant court through public or private means until today. It is astonishing and heartbreaking that the concerned judge issued non-bailable arrest warrants without determining the actual facts.

Furthermore, it is extremely unfortunate that the authorities responsible for enforcing the law are busy harassing the family of Martyred Arshad Sharif instead of searching for and holding accountable the masterminds and killers. It has been recorded that the request submitted by the family of Martyred Arshad Sharif to include an FIR (against those involved in his murder) has not been accepted by the police so far. In fact, the police disregarded the family’s request and themselves became complainants by filing an FIR without mentioning the information provided by the family regarding the individuals involved in Martyred Arshad Sharif’s murder. The police deprived the family of their right to file an FIR under the laws of Pakistan.

No significant progress has been made in the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the investigation into the murder of Martyred Arshad Sharif. Furthermore, although the fact-finding committee’s report identified the involvement of various elements in the murder of Martyred Arshad Sharif, no action has been taken in this regard. Not even a single person mentioned in the fact-finding report has been investigated. The questions posed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan are still awaiting answers, and the federal government has not been held accountable for its lack of seriousness. There is no progress evident through diplomatic means or the Foreign Office.

It is clear that recently, Mohsin Dawar (MNA and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee) revealed in his interview that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raja Pervez Ashraf, created every possible obstacle in the investigation of the murder of Martyred Arshad Sharif. It seems that state institutions, including its judicial branch, are not seriously committed to providing justice to the family of Martyred Arshad Sharif. The state, with full force, is trying to shield and protect the individuals involved in Martyred Arshad Sharif’s murder. The military justice system, which is unnecessary and illegal, is now harassing the family to further compound their wounds. I request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this matter and ensure justice for the family of Martyred Arshad Sharif.
