A comprehensive report on Iranian oil smuggling and the illicit hawala hundi business has been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office, according to reliable sources.
The report provides detailed information on the extent of Iranian oil smuggling and the involvement of currency dealers in hawala hundi operations in Pakistan. It reveals that a total of 722 currency dealers are engaged in hawala hundi business, with the highest number of dealers found in Punjab (205), followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (183), Sindh (176), Balochistan (104), Azad Kashmir (37), and the federal capital Islamabad (17).
Concerns over Iranian Oil Smuggling
The report also sheds light on the individuals involved in Iranian oil smuggling, including government officials, politicians, and dealers. Shockingly, the report reveals that approximately 2.810 billion liters of oil are smuggled from Iran to Pakistan every year, resulting in an annual revenue loss of 60 billion rupees to the national exchequer.
Furthermore, the report states that the revenues generated from oil smuggling are being used by terrorists. It identifies 76 dealers in border areas who are involved in oil smuggling, as well as 995 petrol pumps across the country that sell Iranian oil. The report also highlights the involvement of 90 government officials and 29 politicians in this illegal activity.
The oil is smuggled into Pakistan in Iranian vehicles, particularly those named Zamyad, as mentioned in the report.
