PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, recently granted bail in the cipher case by the Supreme Court, was re-arrested outside Adiala Jail on Wednesday. The PTI claimed that the Rawalpindi DC’s 15-day detention order for Qureshi had been withdrawn and that he was arrested again after being released on bail. Footage shared by the party showed Qureshi being pushed by police into an armoured police vehicle, despite his protests.

Qureshi stated that he felt the police were making a mockery of the Supreme Court’s orders and that he was being targeted for political revenge. He also expressed his innocence and frustration at being arrested again.

The party strongly condemned Qureshi’s violent arrest and asserted that it was a slap in the face of the judiciary and justice system. The PTI accused the state of crossing the limits of brutality and cruelty and claimed that attempts were being made to keep Qureshi out of the upcoming general election.

The PTI called the deputy commissioner’s detention order a clear violation of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding a level playing field for all political parties and urged the chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of the abuse of power and issue orders for Qureshi’s release.
