The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police reported that there was a shooting near vehicles belonging to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s convoy in Dera Ismail Khan, but the politician was not present at the time of the incident.

According to a JUI-F spokesperson, the incident was condemned as a “cowardly act”, and it was stated that there have been repeated warnings about the unfavorable situation for leadership, with letters being written daily about the threats but no action being taken.

The deteriorating law and order situation in KP and Balochistan was also highlighted, with the JUI-F spokesperson calling for an immediate investigation into the incident and questioning the lack of responsibility from security institutions.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani also expressed concern and condemned the attack, offering prayers for the well-being of the JUI-F chief.

The interior ministry had previously issued a warning about serious threats to the lives of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Aimal Wali Khan, calling for extreme caution and necessary security arrangements at their residences and during movement and public gatherings to prevent any untoward incident.

The JUI-F spokesperson also mentioned that security threats had hindered Fazl’s participation in his election campaign in Dera Ismail Khan, and called for the Election Commission of Pakistan and law-enforcement agencies to provide security to ensure fair and free polls in the country.
