The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s plea challenging his indictment in the cipher case. However, the court has directed that Imran be given a fair trial. The cipher case involves a diplomatic document that was allegedly not returned by Imran. The document is said to contain a threat from the United States to remove Imran from office. Imran has been sentenced to three years in prison in a separate graft case and his sentence was suspended on August 29. He remained in jail on judicial remand in the cipher case. Imran and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi were both indicted in the cipher case on Monday. Imran has petitioned the IHC against his indictment, claiming the judgment was passed hastily and the framing of charges was illegal. The court has reserved its verdict on Imran’s petition.
