Yair Lapid has urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down immediately, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership following a security failure on October 7. Lapid has called for a no-confidence vote in parliament to form a new government. He accuses Netanyahu and the security apparatus for an “unpardonable failure” in preventing the attack. Despite an agreement to form an “emergency government” during the war, Lapid has refused to join. He is calling for a national reconstruction with a new prime minister from Netanyahu’s Likud party. Likud has rejected this proposal, stating it is “shameful” to make such a call during a time of war. The UN Security Council has passed a resolution calling for humanitarian pauses and aid delivery in Gaza, as well as the release of captives held in Gaza.
