‘Oppenheimer’ steamrolls its way to the Oscars with SAG Award victories

Historical epic “Oppenheimer” continues to gain recognition at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, increasing its chances of winning the best picture Oscar next month. The film, depicting the race to build the first atomic bomb, received accolades for best movie cast, best actor for Cillian Murphy, and best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.

Cillian Murphy, portraying scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, expressed his gratitude towards his fellow actors for the award and shared his journey in transitioning from a musician to an actor. The SAG-AFTRA Awards hold significance as actors form the largest voting bloc for the Oscars.

The momentum for “Oppenheimer” seems unstoppable, with director Christopher Nolan’s film already winning accolades at various award ceremonies. Other notable winners at the SAG Awards include Lily Gladstone and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for their outstanding performances.

Netflix streamed the awards live for the first time, showcasing the industry’s efforts to expand live programming. Additionally, SAG-AFTRA honored Barbra Streisand with a lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the entertainment industry.
