On the 40th martyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri freedom fighter Maqbool Butt Shaheed, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) for Human Rights Mushaal Hussein Mullick paid tribute to his sacrifices and role in the resistance movement for the freedom of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Speaking at a function organized at Koshar School at refugees camp Mankpiyan, the SAPM praised Butt as an icon of the resistance movement and a man of integrity and honesty who devoted his life to the cause. She lamented that Butt had been sent to the gallows in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail in 1984 and his body had not been handed over to his heirs for burial.

Mushaal Hussein Mullick expressed concern for her husband, Yasin Malik, who is being subjected to brutal and inhuman treatment in Indian jails. She called upon the world community and UN bodies to force India to ensure his release and let Kashmiris decide their fate. She also emphasized the unity of the people of Kashmir in realizing the dream of freedom.

The participants at the function held a special prayer for Yasin Malik and other detained Kashmiri leaders and activists in Indian jails, and special prayers were offered for their well-being.
