A shocking and heartbreaking video of a man throwing his pregnant wife into a well over dowry demands has gone viral on social media. The incident took place in the Neemuch city of Madhya Pradesh state in India.
The distressing video, which is age-restricted due to its graphic nature, shows the victim named Usha, from Rajasthan state’s Pratapgarh district, clutching onto a rope at the bottom of the well. She can be heard sobbing and pleading for mercy.
According to reports, the video was filmed by Usha’s husband, Rakesh Keer, who intended to use the footage to pressure his in-laws into giving him a dowry of INR500,000. However, Usha’s relatives contacted the villagers who rescued her from the well.
Usha has accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to constant harassment for dowry throughout their three-year marriage.
The police have taken action in this case and arrested Rakesh Keer. He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 498-A (treating a married woman with cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
This incident highlights the prevailing issue of dowry-related abuse and violence against women in India.
