Residents in Karachi have been facing severe disruptions in their gas supply, despite claims by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) that there have been no outages during the day. However, residents have reported that they are only getting gas for one hour, three times a day, with low pressure. They also noted that certain areas with connections close to SSGC infrastructure were receiving uninterrupted gas, while others were left with shortages. This has led many residents to switch to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to meet their gas needs. Residents have also expressed concern over the unequal distribution of gas to commercial and domestic consumers, as well as the use of illegal suction devices to obtain gas. The SSGC has attributed the shortage to a decrease in natural gas supply and an increase in demand, particularly due to severe winter in Balochistan. They have also warned against the use of gas suction pumps due to safety reasons.
