Justice Qazi Faez Isa took office as the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan on Sunday. President Arif Alvi administered the oath of office during a ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir were also present, along with top court judges and former chief justices.

Born on October 26, 1959, in Quetta, Justice Isa is the son of the late Qazi Mohammad Isa, a prominent figure in the Pakistan Movement and a close associate of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Justice Isa has had a long and distinguished career in law, practicing for over 27 years before various high courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

During his tenure as Chief Justice, Justice Isa will face several challenges, including the need to unify the court and restore its credibility. One of the key issues that he will address is the formation of benches consisting of like-minded judges, which has been a source of criticism for the top judiciary. In addition, he will have to maintain a working relationship with the executive and address the pending cases, including the trial of civilians by military courts.

Justice Isa’s experience and understanding of the dynamics of the judiciary make him well-equipped to handle these challenges. As the top judge of the Balochistan High Court from 2009 to 2014, he dealt with sensitive issues during a period of ongoing military operations in Balochistan.

Furthermore, Justice Isa will also tackle the significant backlog of over 56,000 cases, working towards ensuring efficient and timely justice for the people of Pakistan.

With Justice Qazi Faez Isa at the helm, the Supreme Court of Pakistan looks forward to a period of strong leadership and the effective administration of justice.
