A cordless future for the iPhone?
Rumors about the next iPhone, dubbed the ‘iPhone 8’, are generating a lot of excitement. Apple is expected to announce a major redesign of the smartphone this year to commemorate the 10th anniversary.
Apple has already shown interest in eliminating cords. The Apple Watch can be wirelessly charged with a magnetic docking station, which costs $79. Additionally, the latest MacBook only has one USB port.
Apple could further monetize wireless charging by selling a separate charging station. This feature would simplify charging for smartphone users, allowing them to simply place their phones on the dock instead of plugging them in.
Apple has announced that it is joining the Wireless Power Consortium to contribute to the development of wireless charging standards.
Rumors about the next iPhone’s features also include an edge-to-edge display, a glass body, and the removal of the home button.
