The Indian navy announced on social media that they have successfully captured the MV Ruen off the Indian coast, putting an end to the three-month hijacking of the Maltese-flagged bulk carrier. Special commandos were involved in the operation that led to the rescue of 17 crew members from Somali pirates who had seized the cargo vessel. All 35 pirates on board surrendered and the ship was searched for illegal weapons and contraband. This successful mission demonstrates the navy’s commitment to maritime security and the safety of seafarers in the region. The vessel may have been involved in another hijacking incident earlier in the week. Somali pirates had become more active in recent months after a period of less activity. India has increased its naval presence in the region to combat piracy, with at least 17 incidents recorded since December.
