Berlin: The spokesperson for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu enters Germany after being accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC), he will be arrested.
According to a report by Mail Online, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s spokesperson Stephen Hibberstreet has confirmed that the law will be upheld and Israeli Prime Minister will be arrested if he enters Germany.
Germany’s statement comes after the Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor demanded that Germany reject the ICC’s decision.
Earlier, British prosecutor Karim Khan announced that they will attempt to arrest Netanyahu along with Israeli Defense Minister Yuval Galant and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
It should be noted that ICC had issued warrants for the arrests of Netanyahu and Galant for committing heinous crimes during Israel’s war on Gaza after Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, and also issued warrants for the Hamas leader during this time.
The ICC’s decision had sparked mixed reactions from around the world, with Britain expressing disapproval and US President Biden deeming it provocative, while many countries’ leaders supported the investigation.
It is clear that in Israel’s brutal actions, more than 35,800 Palestinians, including children and women, have been martyred in Gaza, with 15,000 children among them, and 79,990 Palestinians have been injured and 10,000 are missing.
