Following an outage that left thousands of users unable to access or post new content on the social media platform X, services have now been mostly restored. The disruption, which began at approximately 06:00 GMT on Thursday, affected tens of thousands of users globally. At the peak of the outage, about 95,000 users reported problems, with the majority of affected users located in the United States. Users in other countries also experienced issues accessing both X and X Pro (formerly known as TweetDeck).

During the outage, users took to other platforms, such as Meta’s Threads app, to voice their frustration about their X timelines being blank and their inability to post or view new content or send direct messages. The site only displayed a message saying “Welcome to X!” The cause of the outage, which lasted for approximately 45 minutes, is still unknown.

The social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, is owned by billionaire Elon Musk, who acquired the company in a $44bn deal last year.
