GB to Deploy Police Along with Public Transport on KKH for Enhanced Safety and Security

For the safe travel and security of passengers on the Karakoram Highway (KKH), the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government has decided to deploy police forces along with public transport vehicles.

In an official statement from the Home Department, it has been clarified that there is no ban under consideration on public transport, and the rumors being spread in this regard are baseless.

To ensure the safety and security of passengers, the Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts troops will perform patrolling duties on the KKH. Additionally, police and community police troops have also been deployed at various places along the highway.

A distressing incident was reported earlier from Babusar, where a driver lost his life during a robbery attempt. The victim, identified as Mohammad Rashid from Punjab, fell victim to a fatal shooting incident at the tourist destination of Babusar.

The culprits had blocked the road with stones to intercept incoming vehicles and rob the tourists. Sensing the danger, the driver tried to reverse, but the robbers opened fire, resulting in the tragic loss of his life.

At the time of the incident, there were six other passengers in the vehicle besides the driver.

In response to this incident, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan took immediate action and instructed the Gilgit-Baltistan Police and authorities to apprehend the culprits within 48 hours.
