Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding his trial in a contempt case by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP initiated contempt proceedings against Imran Khan, Asad Umar, and Fawad Chaudhry in August 2022 for allegedly using disrespectful language against the Chief Election Commissioner. The ECP had ordered the trial to take place at Adiala Jail due to unspecified security concerns, prompting Imran Khan to file a petition asking for an open and public trial with access for his legal team, media, and the public. The petition will be taken up by Justice Aalia Neelum on Monday. The ECP announced the decision to hold contempt case proceedings against Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on December 6, citing security concerns. The proceedings will be heard by a four-member ECP bench on December 13. On the last hearing of the case on October 24, the interior ministry and Islamabad police expressed concerns about the security risks associated with producing the former premier, and issued an apology to the ECP.
