The European Union (EU) has condemned the apparent “ethnic cleansing campaign” by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s West Darfur, following reports of over 1,000 people killed this month. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated that the RSF’s actions are part of a wider effort to eradicate the non-Arab Masalit community from the region. The EU is working with the International Criminal Court to document violations and ensure accountability. The UN estimates that more than 10,000 people have been killed in the conflict, with over 4.8 million displaced within Sudan and 1.2 million fleeing to neighboring countries.
