The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stated that 76 per cent of nomination papers filed by PTI candidates for the upcoming general elections have been accepted. This contradicts the party’s claims of a lack of level playing field in the run-up to the polls. The ECP provided this information in response to a petition submitted by PTI to the Supreme Court seeking contempt of court proceedings against the election commission and other government authorities for allegedly violating the court’s orders and creating a lack of level playing field for the party during the election process. The ECP also stated that it has taken steps to address the PTI’s grievances and has established complaint cells, and provided contact numbers to the PTI. The ECP has requested that the contempt petition be dismissed.
