The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended the deadline for filing nomination papers for the February 8 general elections by two days. Despite this extension, the poll date will not be affected. The electoral watchdog issued the election schedule last week, bringing an end to uncertainty surrounding the exercise. Nomination papers can now be filed until December 24, following requests from political parties and to facilitate the candidacy process. Political parties must submit priority lists for specific seats to returning officers within the stipulated time. Returning officers will examine the nomination papers from December 25 to December 30, as specified in the schedule. The ECP has confirmed that the amended schedule is available on their website, and the polling for general elections is scheduled for February 8, 2023.
