Gaza’s healthcare system is under significant strain as 40 medical centers have suspended operations due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment. Patients arriving at hospitals are displaying signs of disease caused by overcrowding and poor sanitation after more than 1.4 million people were forced to flee their homes. Aid agencies have warned about the health crisis in Gaza, a region under an Israeli blockade that has limited access to electricity, clean water, and fuel. The cramped conditions in temporary shelters and schools used as housing have become breeding grounds for the spread of diseases. With hospitals running out of fuel for generators, critical equipment, like incubators, is at risk of failure. The World Health Organization reports that a third of Gaza hospitals are not operating, and urgent humanitarian support is needed. The intensification of bombardment has forced hospitals like the private Indonesian Hospital and Beit Hanoun Hospital to stop operations, further straining the healthcare system. Displaced Palestinians in temporary shelters are also suffering from various health issues, including stomach complaints, lung infections, and rashes, due to poor living conditions. The scarcity of over-the-counter medicines and concerns about chronic illness treatments running out have added to the healthcare challenges. Tragic stories from affected families, including the loss of loved ones in airstrikes, further highlight the dire situation.
