Chinese state media has issued a warning to the Philippines about causing trouble in the South China Sea, stating that their actions are extremely dangerous. The People’s Daily, a state-controlled newspaper, stated that the Philippines has infringed on China’s territory in the region and risked making severe miscalculations. The commentary also blamed the United States for encouraging the Philippines’ actions in the area, which has escalated tensions. The editorial also stated that the Philippines’ behavior has seriously harmed regional peace, stability, prosperity, and development. The warning comes after months of tension and accusations between Beijing and Manila over incidents in the South China Sea.

Beijing claims Second Thomas Shoal and the entire South China Sea on the basis of its “nine-dash line”, a claim disputed by countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Despite an international tribunal ruling against China’s claim, China continues to insist on the line’s legitimacy. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has also warned the Philippines to act with caution in the dispute, indicating that any miscalculation would bring a resolute response from China.

The warning to the Philippines comes at a time when Manila is strengthening military relations with Japan and the United States, which has also caused tension with China. The US upset China by sending a navy ship into waters near the contested South China Sea area.
