The caretaker government has stated that 290 Baloch protesters who were arrested in Islamabad during a demonstration have been released. The decision was made after negotiations between the demonstrators and a cabinet committee. The protest, organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), began in Turbat on December 6 and culminated in a sit-in outside the National Press Club in Islamabad. The BYC had demanded the release of all protesters, and the Islamabad police announced the release of the detained individuals after their bail was approved. However, the BYC claims that over 100 protesters are still in custody or “missing”, and has threatened to take further action if all protesters are not released.
