The Hollywood film ‘Barbie’ continues its remarkable success by surpassing ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ as Warner Bros.’s highest-earning movie.
The film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, added another $18.2 million to its worldwide box office over the weekend, bringing its total collection to an astounding $1.34 billion.
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ had previously held the record with earnings of $1.31 billion.
‘Barbie’ is now on track to dethrone ‘The Super Bros. Movie’ as the highest-grossing film of the year.
The success of the film has not come as a surprise to Margot Robbie, who is one of the producers. In an interview, the Suicide Squad star predicted that the movie would exceed the $1 billion mark.
Robbie stated, “I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director. And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig. And I think I told them that it’d make $1 billion, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!”
