Abdul Razzaq, a former all-rounder, has shared his comments and advice for Pakistan’s all-format skipper, Babar Azam, following the team’s elimination from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Pakistan was eliminated from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 group stage based on net run rate.

Abdul Razzaq made headlines with his remarks on Babar Azam’s leadership skills during a private channel’s show. The former all-rounder advised Azam to step down as captain and focus on excelling as an individual player.

He cited the examples of India’s M.S. Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who both flourished as team players after resigning as captains.

It is worth noting that Babar Azam had expressed in a press conference before the England match that his captaincy responsibilities did not hinder his batting and he was not concerned about retaining the captaincy.

“I have been leading my team for the past three years and I have never felt pressure,” he said. “I have not performed as well as I should have in the World Cup, which is why people are saying that I am under pressure.

“For the past two and a half or three years, I was the one performing for the team and leading them.”
