A leaked document has implicated the first lady of Haiti, Martine Moise, the former prime minister, and the ex-chief of police in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. The document, published by local media outlet AyiboPost, alleges that Martine Moise conspired with former Prime Minister Claude Joseph to kill the president and replace him. The judge investigating the assassination has ordered the arrest and trial of around 50 people involved in the killing, including the first lady, former prime minister, and ex-chief of police. The document also revealed that a group of about 20 assailants, mostly Colombian mercenaries, were involved in the attack on the president. The former first lady’s statements have been deemed contradictory and discrediting, leading to her indictment. Prime Minister Ariel Henry has criticized the arrests as unjust, while a separate case on the assassination is being tried in Miami, where 6 out of 11 defendants have pleaded guilty. Since Moise’s death, Haiti has descended further into chaos, with no election held and the country struggling to combat criminal gangs. The United Nations has approved a force to support Haitian police, with Kenya preparing to lead the mission.
