Karachi: The control authority of the government universities in the province, Sindh, Justice (R) Makhdoom Mehmood has sent Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalil Abu Bux to compulsory leave and a committee of inquiry has been formed in response to the allegations against him.
According to the government of Sindh, a summary prepared on Monday was approved by the Chief Minister of Sindh, which is pending notification. It is reported that in accordance with this series, a three-member committee will investigate the matter, including Vice Chancellors of three universities – Professor Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi from NED University, Dr. Majid Sehrai from Sindh Madressatul Islam University, and Dr. Saeed Qureshi from Dow University of Medical Sciences.
It should be noted that there are allegations of a serious nature against the Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, and a video of him went viral on social media causing unrest at the university. Teachers and employees were protesting, and the university association had sent a letter of concern to the Chief Minister of Sindh, demanding an investigation into the matter.
This demand and protest continued to gain momentum, after which sources say that the Chief Minister of Sindh had sought recommendations from the Chairman of Sindh Higher Education Commission, Dr. Tariq Rafi, and a recommendation was made by the commission to form a committee of inquiry including the names mentioned.
A summary of these recommendations was sent to the Chief Minister of Sindh, and in response, he ordered the Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University to go on leave until the completion of the inquiry.
It should be remembered that the General Secretary of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) and President of the Teachers’ Association at Shah Abdul Latif University, Professor Dr. Ghumro, and Association Secretary, Professor Dr. Hassanuddin Sheikh had requested the immediate investigation and removal of the Vice Chancellor from his position while speaking to Express.
The summary sent to the Chief Minister contained the view of the association’s president and general secretary that the Vice Chancellor’s blatant video had appeared in public, and they had taken a stance that the Chief Minister should take serious notice of the Vice Chancellor’s inappropriate video.
The letter further stated that the image of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur has been severely damaged by this video, and the Vice Chancellor appears involved. This viral video raises serious questions about the leadership of the institutions, posing a serious threat to their reputation.
This video is astonishing for the students, teachers, and the general public, and everyone has reservations about it. In the letter, the Chief Minister of Sindh was urged to conduct immediate and impartial investigations into this matter to restore public trust in universities.
The university administration’s position on this matter was that the Vice Chancellor has declared this video to be fake and has stated that it was made using technology. Many people inside and outside the university are involved in this, and they are asking the Vice Chancellor to accommodate them as per the previous administration’s practices.
