Lahore: National cricket team captain Babar Azam has said that the entire team’s focus is solely on winning the World Cup. What happened in the past is done, this time we will give the nation the gift of the World Cup.
The national team captain expressed this confidence and trust in a press conference regarding the selected team for the World Cup 2024.
Babar said that they were not able to win the previous World Cup, but that was the past which has passed, but this time we are sure that we will bring the trophy. The entire team’s focus is on how to win this World Cup.
Babar Azam said that the team selection was based on merit. The selectors selected the team after lengthy discussions, mutual consultations, and observing each player’s performance.
The national team captain said that PCB chairman Ehsan Mani is also talking about World Cup preparations and giving confidence to the team.
Talking about the team’s selection, Babar Azam said that Haris Rauf has recovered quickly, which is a promising development. Haris Rauf has performed well in T20 cricket.
Regarding the team’s openers, Babar Azam said that my and Mohammad Rizwan’s playing styles are different, if I have to leave the opening, I will do it.
In the top order, we have hopes from Mohammad Rizwan, Sahibzada Farhan, and Fakhar Zaman.
Babar Azam said that they have mentioned that Amir Jamal has been given a place in T20 based on performance. It took him some time to settle. There was no bias in the selection. Muhammad Haris got an opportunity in PSL but could not perform.
On the question of Hasan Ali’s inclusion in the team, the national team selectors have already mentioned that Hasan Ali has been included as a backup. They are experienced players from whom we can benefit.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is starting on June 1 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in America, and the final will be played on June 29.
20 teams will play 55 matches against each other. The tournament matches will be held at 3 venues in America and 6 venues in the West Indies.
