Handlová: The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, was injured in a fatal attack and was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot. According to a report by the Reuters news agency, a statement issued by the Slovak government stated that Prime Minister Robert Fico was attacked in Handlová after a meeting in his government office, resulting in severe injuries.

Local media reported that four shots were fired, hitting Prime Minister Robert Fico in the abdomen. The Slovak media reported that the 71-year-old suspect had fired the shots, but the motives are not immediately clear. The suspect’s son stated that he had a licensed firearm, but he did not know the details of his father’s intentions and the incident.

The report stated that 59-year-old Robert Fico was presiding over a meeting in Handlová and was attacked immediately after leaving the building, where he was transferred to the central hospital in the Słowiński region in critical condition. Subsequently, he was airlifted by helicopter to the central city of Banská Bystrica for emergency medical treatment, where his condition is reported to be extremely critical.

Eyewitnesses reported that as soon as Robert Fico came out of the building and was shaking hands with people there, gunfire was heard, and three to four shots were fired, after which the police arrested a suspect.

Slovakia is a small country in Central Europe where incidents of violence in political history are very rare.

The European Union and NATO strongly condemned the attack on the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.
