The picture depicts the COP28 summit, with the host Sultan Al Jaber presenting the collaborative agreement to transition away from fossil fuels in a “just, orderly, and equitable manner” with 194 countries, although many at-risk nations believe there is still more action needed to combat climate change. It took 13 days of negotiations in Dubai, with the Emirati president of the summit, Sultan Al Jaber, praising the collective work to make progress on the “transformational” agreement. Despite objections from some island nations, the final agreement was met with a standing ovation and approval. The new agreement calls for a transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems, aiming for no net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Although there were concerns over the weakened language and environmentalists point out some loopholes, the agreement was hailed as a step forward by many.
