On Thursday, October 26, Israel released a video showcasing a nighttime incursion into Gaza Strip. The Israeli military accompanied the video with a statement claiming that they had struck various terrorist cells, infrastructure, and anti-tank missile launch posts in preparation for future combat. Despite the heavily edited nature of the video, it is clear that it serves as propaganda aimed at both Israeli society and the international community.

The purpose of the video is to assure Israelis that their military is actively engaged in operations and not simply waiting for a full-fledged ground invasion of Gaza. The Israeli military hopes that by showcasing their preparations and actions, it will ease doubts and uncertainties within the country regarding their current strategy. It is crucial for a society to trust their leadership and not question their intentions or truthfulness.

Unlike in other countries, a majority of Israelis serve in the armed forces and receive regular training, making them well-informed and capable of judging military matters themselves. Upon watching the video, Israelis will recognize the presence of a tank company, reinforced by armoured bulldozers, long-range artillery, and a company of infantry. They will appreciate the production value and timeliness of the video, which aims to alleviate tension and doubt by demonstrating the military’s capabilities and freedom of movement.

However, the video also serves a different purpose for Palestinian fighters in Gaza and the rest of the world. Hamas, in particular, will analyze the video tactically to understand what they can expect from their enemy and prepare accordingly. While it is possible that the video is deliberately deceptive, intended to mislead the enemy about Israel’s intended strategies, it is unlikely at this stage of preparations.

The video unintentionally reveals important details about Israel’s approach to a potential ground offensive. It confirms the use of armed bulldozers to breach their own concrete barriers, allowing the armoured column to advance. Furthermore, it demonstrates a riskier approach of advancing in a line, rather than side by side, which exposes the attackers to a higher risk of hidden opposition. The video also reveals that the Israeli military expects significant resistance only when forces reach the outskirts of Gaza City, as infantry remains inside the armoured vehicles during the initial advance.

Additionally, the video suggests that the units will be commanded at the ground level, with tactical decisions being made by experienced operational lieutenant colonels. It is also apparent that Israeli commanders will have a comprehensive overview of the battlefield through the use of drones.

While the video does not directly address the question of a ground offensive, its release does not go unnoticed by the international community, including Hamas.
