US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called on Israeli officials to enhance the facilitation of humanitarian aid supplies to Gaza amid concerns from the United Nations and aid organizations of a potential famine in parts of the war-torn Palestinian territory.

During his visit to Kerem Shalom, an Israeli entry point into Gaza, Blinken emphasized the need for progress in humanitarian access and urged Israel to do more to assist Gaza, where nearly half of the population is facing severe hunger.

As part of the discussions with Israeli leaders, Blinken reiterated that the US would not support a military operation in Rafah without a plan to protect civilians. Meanwhile, Jordan’s aid convoys to Gaza were reportedly attacked by Israeli settlers, highlighting the challenges in providing humanitarian assistance to the region.

Efforts to secure a ceasefire and exchange of hostages for prisoners are ongoing, with Blinken urging Hamas to accept a truce deal proposed by Egyptian mediators. However, Hamas expressed concerns about the deal and accused Israel of being the main obstacle to a resolution.

As the situation in Gaza remains complex, Israel is deliberating its next steps while facing pressure from various parties to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
