An investigation into a police raid on a trader’s home in Karachi’s Orangi Town area revealed that the operation was carried out in an unprofessional manner, with malicious intent. The police team took a large sum of money, jewelry, and a digital video recorder, attempting to erase the CCTV footage. However, they were caught with the help of other CCTV cameras in the street. Outrage over the incident on social media prompted Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Riffat Mukhtar to set up an inquiry team, led by West Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Asim Khan. The inquiry concluded that the raid was a “heinous crime,” and recommended strict legal action be taken against the involved officers. One officer, DSP Umair Bajari, was remanded into custody for questioning regarding the robbery during the raid. Several other unnamed policemen and private individuals were also named in the case.
