Taiwan is closely monitoring a Chinese naval formation led by the aircraft carrier Shandong as it sails through the Taiwan Strait. The carrier entered the strait on Wednesday afternoon, sailing from south to north along the west of the median line. Taiwan’s defense ministry stated that the carrier has continued to sail northward through the northern waters and that the military is closely monitoring the situation and has tasked appropriate forces to respond. This comes after China said its troops were on constant high alert following the passage of US and Canadian warships through the sensitive waterway last week.
