India achieved a dominant victory over Sri Lanka in Mumbai, advancing to the World Cup semi-finals. Sri Lanka struggled, collapsing to a mere 55 runs within 20 overs, while chasing a target of 358.

Mohammed Shami displayed an exceptional performance, taking 5 wickets for 18 runs in just five overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj also contributed with the new ball, causing early damage to Sri Lanka’s batting lineup. Sri Lanka’s innings witnessed five ducks and a highest score of only 14.

India’s winning margin of 302 runs makes it their largest victory in terms of runs in a World Cup match, surpassing their previous record of a 257-run win against Bermuda in 2007.

Although Virat Kohli fell short of equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 one-day international centuries, he managed to score 88 runs. Opening batsman Shubman Gill played a crucial role as well, top-scoring with 92 runs. Despite the early dismissal of captain Rohit Sharma, the partnership between Kohli and Gill contributed 189 runs.

Shreyas Iyer also made a significant impact, smashing 82 runs off just 56 balls, including six impressive sixes.
