The Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has called on the federal government to intervene and take over K-Electric, the sole power supplier in Karachi. He cited inflated electricity prices as a major issue and demanded that the government not renew K-Electric’s license and assume control of the power distribution authority.

Tessori also praised the army chief’s commitment to restoring investor trust and promoting the agriculture and IT sectors. He emphasized the need for addressing the instability caused by the PTI chairman and highlighted his communication with former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in this regard.

Nationwide Protests

In response to the exorbitant electricity bills from K-Electric, protests have erupted across the country from Karachi to Khyber. Many demonstrations have turned violent due to public anger over the high bills.

Residents of Karachi, in particular, have protested against the steep bills, which exceed their monthly salaries. In Peshawar, a substantial number of people took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction, vowing not to remain silent against what they perceive as an injustice. Traders from Ganj Bazaar and Lahore Square even resorted to burning their power bills to symbolize their protest.

Furthermore, protesters in Rawalpindi gathered at Committee Chowk and demanded the government to abolish the taxes imposed on electricity while burning their bills as a sign of protest.

The public outcry against K-Electric’s inflated bills has amplified the call for the federal government to step in and address the issue. The Sindh Governor’s demand for the government to assume control over K-Electric resonates with the public’s discontent and highlights the urgency of finding a solution to the escalating electricity prices.
