KARACHI: A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court on Monday, seeking the enforcement of fire safety laws in the city’s high-rise buildings. The petitioner urged the authorities to strictly monitor and implement the fire safety rules and regulations as outlined in the Building Code of Pakistan-Fire Safety Provisions-2016. The petition also called for the formation of an emergency taskforce to ensure compliance with these laws. The petitioner highlighted the need for improved firefighting systems in residential, commercial, and industrial structures in Karachi, and urged the court to direct the authorities to compensate the families of fire incident victims and provide medical care for those injured. This petition follows a previous one filed by the same petitioner in 2017, which led to several court orders and was eventually disposed of in February of this year.
