A devastating accident occurred near Okara as a boat, carrying more than 50 people, capsized in the River Sutlej, resulting in the loss of seven lives.

Local residents displayed immense bravery as they retrieved the bodies of the deceased from the river, while a number of passengers were able to save themselves.

Upon learning of the incident, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi swiftly instructed the authorities to expedite the rescue operation and diligently oversee the process.

This unfortunate incident followed another tragic event in the Umerkot district, where six individuals drowned in Kalankar Lake when their boat capsized. The victims were on their way to pay homage at the renowned Sehar Faquir Shrine. The police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies of three children.

Due to the darkness, the rescue operation had to be temporarily halted, but it will resume in the morning to search for the remaining three missing persons.

The bereaved families revealed that the boat they were traveling in was old and its condition was the primary cause of the tragic accident.
