The Supreme Court of Pakistan, comprising a three-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, has reserved its verdict in the NAB amendment case.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Bandial stated that the court will soon announce a “short and sweet” verdict on the plea.

Overview of NAB Law Amendment

The NAB (Second Amendment) Bill 2021 proposes that the deputy chairman of NAB, appointed by the federal government, will assume the role of acting chairman after the completion of the chairman’s tenure.

The bill also reduces the NAB chairman’s term from four years to an undisclosed duration. If the law is approved, NAB will no longer have jurisdiction over federal, provincial, or local tax matters.

Additionally, the proposed law sets a three-year term for judges of the accountability courts. It also mandates NAB to provide evidence against the accused before their arrest.

Further details will be provided soon.
