Sarfraz Bugti, former caretaker interior minister, has been elected unopposed as the new Balochistan chief minister. Supported by PPP and PML-N, he submitted his nomination papers and was proposed by PPP leader Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and PML-N leader Nawab Gangeez Khan Marri. No other candidates filed papers, leading to Bugti’s unopposed election. The official announcement will be made in the assembly session today, with Bugti expected to take oath later in the day. Governor Malik Abdul Wali Kakar will administer the oath. Bugti, who joined PPP in December and won elections on their ticket, has the support of the party’s leadership. He plans to govern with a focus on development and prosperity, involving all political parties in Balochistan’s progress. His door will be open for dialogue and cooperation with opposition parties for the province’s benefit. Alliance with JUI-F is not expected as they have opted to sit on the opposition benches. Other elected MPAs from PPP also expressed support for Bugti’s nomination.
