In a recent address, President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that a Russian missile strike targeted a facility belonging to the Ukrainian aeronautics group, Motor Sich. The attack comes amidst ongoing tensions between the two countries following Russia’s invasion. The facility, located in the Khmelnytskyi region of western Ukraine, approximately 300 kilometers southwest of Kyiv, was one of several strategic firms taken over by Ukraine’s defense ministry in November last year.

Motor Sich specializes in the production of aircraft and helicopter engines, as well as other components. While the extent of the damage to the Motor Sich headquarters remains unknown, the governor of the region reported that a Russian strike caused a fire at a site outside the city. President Zelensky stated that the missile strikes involved Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal weapons, designed to evade air-defense systems, but noted that some of the missiles were successfully intercepted.

It is worth mentioning that the Khmelnytskyi region, located far from the front lines of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, has been frequently targeted by Russian strikes. The region is also home to a major Ukrainian airbase.
