Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has expressed his deep concern about the rising wave of Hindutva or Hindu nationalism, stating that it is a matter of great concern for the international community. In a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Prime Minister Kakar linked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ideology of Hindu nationalism with Canada’s recent allegations against India regarding the killing of a separatist Sikh leader on Canadian soil.
The prime minister highlighted that the ideologues of Hindutva are becoming increasingly bold, extending their influence beyond the region. He pointed out that the killing of the Sikh leader is a reflection of this alarming trend. However, he noted that many Western countries choose to ignore this reality due to economic and strategic reasons.
Prime Minister Kakar reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations with India, stressing that this requires reciprocal sincerity from the Indian government. However, he criticized the measures taken by India in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, pointing out that they have pushed the entire region into a state of instability.
The prime minister expressed concern about the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the BJP government’s attempts to alter the region’s demographic landscape. He called on the United States to use its influence with the Indian government to peacefully resolve the Kashmir dispute, in line with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
PM Kakar also emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining strong relations with both the United States and China, stating that the country refuses to engage in any form of camp politics. He highlighted Pakistan’s belief in the connection between peace, stability, and economic prosperity and social development in the region.
The prime minister mentioned that Pakistan has established a Special Investment Facilitation Council to attract investment and foster innovation in the country. He also expressed deep concern over the resurgence of terrorist threats, particularly from groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and called on the international community to unite against this emerging threat. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a stable Afghanistan and its support for the Afghan government in fulfilling its obligations, including safeguarding women’s rights and preventing Afghan territory from being used for terrorist activities.
